Physician Profile: Dr. Karl Hasik, OB-GYN, FACOG

CCMH has been lucky to have Dr. Karl Hasik on staff since 2012 and his contributions to the OB-GYN department have been quite appreciated during that time. Hasik’s patients are quite appreciative of him too.

“I always felt like Dr. Hasik’s number one priority. Even on the day of my child’s birth, he was right there at 5 am,” said Deidra Brown. “We had 18 people in the delivery room and the only non-medical people there were Nick (my husband) and me. They made sure that everyone was taken care of with two doctors for me and Dr. Ingram and Dr. Woollen on the children’s team.”

Dr. Hasik has been in the OB-GYN field for quite some time (over 30 years to be exact) and over that time has gained much practical experience (he’s delivered over 5,000 babies). However, every great doctor has to get their start somewhere.

He graduated from the medical school at the University of Missouri, Columbia, and completed his residency at the St. Louis University School of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, in St. Louis, Missouri.

Following that, Dr. Hasik served as a faculty member at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and at The University of Alabama School of Medicine. After some time as a faculty member, Dr. Hasik made his way to CCMH where his talents have been put to good use for the Crawford County community.

“My practice is a general OB-GYN practice, but I have always had special interests,” noted Dr. Hasik. “I am certified in hysteroscopy and laparoscopy, both minimally invasive approaches to gynecology surgery.”

Surgical services provided by Dr. Hasik will also include performing all the noninvasive approaches to hysterectomy, removal of ovaries, and the medical and surgical treatment of female urinary incontinence.

Physician Profile: Dr. Sarah Lundin, OB-GYN

CCMH is home to many friendly faces on its staff, but one face may be new to patients visiting the hospital. Dr. Sarah Lundin has joined Dr. Karl Hasik as one of CCMH’s two OB-GYN specialists.

But while she may be new to CCMH, she is not new to the area.

“I grew up in the Irwin and Manilla areas, even worked a few summers at the Denison Aquatic Center. I’ve missed the rural environment and the amazing people who live here,” said Lundin. “The women of this area deserve the very best care, and I plan to provide them with nothing less. I’m excited to begin my practice here.”

Lundin’s road to CCMH began with her earning a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO). She followed that up with a 2010 graduation from Des Moines University Medical School where she became a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine.

Residency programs were undertaken at Aultman Hospital in Canton, Ohio, and at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). During her residency, Lundin received clinical and surgical experience in general gynecology and obstetrics as well as urogynecology, reproductive endocrinology, high risk obstetrics and gynecologic malignancies.

Dr. Lundin brings a lot to the table for CCMH and her expertise expands the treatment options available for patients.

“My practice is a general OB-GYN practice”, noted Dr. Lundin. “While providing obstetric care, I can also perform gynecological surgeries for incontinence, bladder prolapse, hysterectomy, and hysteroscopy. In addition, I have experience with laparoscopic procedures, Essure, and Novasure.”

Furthermore, Dr. Lundin’s OB services will include vaginal and cesarean deliveries.

Meet the Manager of the Good Samaritan Center

The Good Samaritan Center Thrift Shop is filled with unique items and affordably priced treasures, but perhaps the greatest, most priceless treasure to be found at the Center is its manager, Megan Beam.

Megan is a Dow City native and 2008 graduate of Denison High School. She currently resides in Dow City with her two children, Camden (2) and Chase (8).

Prior to working at the Center, Megan worked on the kill-floor at Tyson Foods in Denison for three years. For the past five years, she has been taking online courses with DeVry University and will be graduating the week of June 26, with a degree in business.

Megan has been with the Center almost since the beginning. Starting on September 24, 2015, she was helping with painting and getting the old Bomgaars building ready for its transformation. As the months progressed, Megan started to think of the Center as another of her children.

“I love my job. I love waking up every morning and being able to come here,” said Megan. “I love every part of this job.”

For Megan, her favorite part of the job is processing, where donations are sorted and organized before being displayed in the shop.

“You find so much stuff when you’re processing donations. Like old stuff you don’t see around anymore,” explained Megan. “Sometimes you’re like ‘what is this?!’ and then you find out and you’re like ‘this is seriously cool.’”

However, Megan finds that the Center fills a very important niche for the Crawford County community and serves an underprivileged but hardworking clientele.

“We’re accommodating a community that cannot afford to go out to name brand stores or the mall and buy brand new stuff,” said Megan. “You can come here instead and find those same items, still in good condition, at much cheaper prices.”

Megan is thrilled by the reception of the Center by the community thus far and was greatly excited by the crowd the Grand Opening brought to the store. But help is still needed and will continue to be needed by the Center.

“We’re in need of more volunteers to help with processing in the back and with running the register in the front,” explained Megan. “Any help, any assistance would be greatly appreciated and quite welcome.”

Make sure to stop in and say “Hi” to Megan the next time you shop at the Center!
